Whether you are suffering from long-term back pain or have recently sustained an injury playing your favourite sport, most problems tend to result from:
- Poor prolonged posture
- Faulty body mechanics
- Stressful living and poor working habits
- Loss of strength and flexibility
As well as offering effective pain management in the short-term, osteopaths look to address all of these factors in order to understand what is causing the problem. This will promote healthy functioning of the whole body and help prevent painful episodes from re-occurring.
Your first visit would involve:
- A detailed case-history.
- A posture and biomechanical assessment. Please note you will usually be asked to undress to your underwear so please bring something you are comfortable in. Shorts and T-shirts are also suitable.
- Time to discuss the findings so you feel happy you understand what is causing the problem and the best course of action available to you.
- Treatment, using a range of techniques that include muscle stretching, soft-tissue / deep-tissue massage, rhythmical joint mobilizing and manipulation.
- Homecare advice: Adam is very keen on giving post-treatment advice which may include stretching, strengthening and postural exercises.
Follow-up appointments mainly involve treatment and advice. The number of treatments needed depends upon your condition and will be discussed in the first visit. Many problems can be helped effectively within 3-6 sessions.
